The Author
Andrea von Botefuhr's prolific creativity as a poet and oil and watercolor painter fourished while growing up on the Big Island of Hawaii. Her hand painted silk garments and quilts have been featured in galleries in Los Angeles, Seattle and Hawaii. Andrea has also studied many forms of Holistic medicine, receiving her formal training in acupuncture and oriental medicine in Honolulu. Andrea lives with her 12-year-old daughter on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
The Illustrator
Bryn Barnard has been called "one of the masters of science fiction art" by the Christian Science Monitor. A multi-talented artist, he has painted historical reconstructions for the National Geographic Society, documented the U.S. space program for NASA, and created over 200 feet of murals for Children's Hospital, Seattle. As illustrator and author of OUTBREAK and DANGEROUS PLANET, both published by Crown, Bryn's work has been called "engrossing" by the Wall Street Journal and "part Jared Diamond...part Stephen Jay Gould" by the New York Times. Bryn studied at the University of California, Berkeley and Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. He lives with his family in Friday Harbor, Washington.
